Dustin Poirier couldn't secure a win in the final fight of his storied UFC career as all three judges scored the lightweight bout for Holloway: 49-46, 49-46 and 48-47.

Dustin Poirier bid farewell to the combat sport on Sunday after losing his final fight to Max Holloway for the UFC BMF Championship in UFC 318 at the Smoothie King Center. Poirier said goodby by laying down his gloves on the mat inside UFC Octagon. The video of the same has gone viral on social media

Poirier walked out to the Octagon with New Orleans rapper Lil Wayne, in a poetic nod Poirier, who was born and raised in Lafayette, walked out to Lil Wayne's track "A Milli" for his UFC debut in 2011. The UFC rearranged its schedule to book Poirier's final fight in his home state.

Poirier bids farewell to UFC

Holloway (28-8) retained his BMF title after landing 98 more strikes (201-109) and landing 53% of his significant strikes. The win for Holloway is the first in three fights against Poirier, who beat him in 2012 and 2019.

Speaking of Poirier's career, the 36 year old, retires in a tie for the fifth-most wins in UFC history with 22. He is also tied for fourth-most knockouts with 11.

Poirier's legacy involves three undisputed title appearances in 2019, 2021 and 2024. He came up short in each, against Khabib Nurmagomedov, Charles Oliveira and Islam Makhachev. He captured an interim lightweight title in 2019, though, by defeating Holloway via unanimous decision in an instant five-round classic.

Dustin competed in the UFC Lightweight division (155 lbs), where he’s ranked #6 as of July 2025. He began at Featherweight (145 lbs) from 2011–2014, switching to Lightweight in 2015 after outgrowing the lower weight.

A black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, he trains at American Top Team in Florida, though he resides in Lafayette.
