Afghanistan fans were inevitably pumped after their historic win over England in the Champions Trophy 2025 clash on Wednesday at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. With India remaining the only opposition that Afghanistan has yet to defeat, a fan claimed that they will beat the Men in Blue in Dubai to clinch the trophy.
Afghanistan, captained by Hashmatullah Shahidi, replicated their 2023 World Cup heroics against England by defeating Jos Buttler and his men by eight runs in a thrilling contest. Ibrahim Zadran's record-breaking 177 propelled their side to 325 and Azmatullah Omarzai's fifer ensured that Joe Root's 120 went in vain. The defeat for England also meant that they are out of the semi-final race and Afghanistan stay alive in the competition.
In the video, a fan said:
"India ho ya koi bhi team ho, hum jaayenge toh sab ko haraayenge. Kyunki humein final jeetna hai. Humein yeh nahin dekhna hai, kaun apna hai, kaun paraaya hai. Toh humein sabko haraana hai aur aagey jeet ke jaana hai, inshallah."
(Whether its India or any other team, we will defeat everyone because we want to win the final. We don't want to see who is ours and who is not. We have to beat everyone and win the final.)
Another fan claimed:
"World mein ek team reh gaya hai India, woh Dubai mein unko haraayenge."
(Only one team is left in the world, which is India, and we will beat them in Dubai)
India are unbeaten in four ODIs against Afghanistan
Meanwhile, India and Afghanistan have battled one another in four ODIs thus far, the first of which took place in 2014. However, India have won three of them.
The closest Afghanistan came to beating the Men in Blue was during the 2018 Asia Cup when the game was tied. It is bound to be a fascinating contest if it takes place in the Champions Trophy, given India are unbeaten thus far.
