'Doesn't Make Any Sense': Cristiano Ronaldo Devastated After Portugal Teammate Diogo Jota's Tragic Demise

Renowned Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo acknowledged his devastation over fellow countryman Diogo Jota's untimely demise. Taking to his official Instagram account, the veteran athlete stated that it doesn't make sense as he got married a few days ago and played together for Portugal.

Renowned Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo acknowledged his devastation over fellow countryman Diogo Jota's untimely demise. Taking to his official Instagram account, the veteran athlete stated that it doesn't make sense as he got married a few days ago and played together for Portugal.

The car accident that caused Jota's demise took place in Spain at 12.30am local time on the A-52 motorway in the municipality of Cernadilla, Zamora. His 26-year-old brother Andre Silva also lost his life. The tragic incident took place as the car left the road and caught fire following a tire burst while seemingly trying to overtake another vehicle.

Taking to Instagram, Ronaldo wrote:

"Doesn't make any sense. Just now we were together in the National Team, just now you were married. To your family, to your wife and children, I send my condolences and wish them all the strength in the world. I know you will always be with them. R.I.P. Diogo and Andre We will all miss you."

The year 2020 saw Jota moving from Wolves to the Liverpool, a club for which he has made more than 180 appearances. He has played in the winning the Premier League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup for them and featured in 49 matches for Portugal senior football team. Jota was part of the side that won the recent Nations League when Portugal beat Spain in the final by penalties.

"We will continue to provide them with our full support" - Liverpool club

Liverpool club announced an official statement following the forward player's demise, stressing the need to provide full support to Jota's friends and family.

"Liverpool Football Club are devastated by the tragic passing of Diogo Jota. Liverpool FC will be making no further comment at this time and request the privacy of Diogo and Andre's family, friends, team-mates and club staff is respected as they try to come to terms with an unimaginable loss. We will continue to provide them with our full support."
