Mumbai: Strikers Crystal Blakely and Anoushka Thakkar struck a brace each, propelled Joga Invincibles to stave off a spirited challenge from a young Athlon FC, Mulund 7-4 win in a high-scoring women open quarter-final match of the Catholic Gymkhana Rink Football Tournament 2019, at the floodlit Catholic Gymkhana’s artificial turf, Marine Drive on here Tuesday evening.
Crystal and Anoushka showed good understanding and combined well with their teammates as they fired in four of the seven goals. Rachel D’Mello, Neha Ture and Levenah Samuel chipped in with one each for Joga Invincibles. Leading Athlon’s fight back was Asha Joshi who scored three goals and Urva Mehta who got one. In men’s veteran quarter-final action, Shalom United got the better of Mumbai Customs by a clear 2-0 margin, while Vakola Veterans scored an impressive 3-0 win against N.F.C. Defending champions Autonomous SC tamed Glorian FC 2-0 in the men’s open. Bombastic FC rode on Roger Sam’s double strikes as they blanked Macabi Dadar 3-0.
