Paris St. Germain's (PSG) attacking mid-fielder Desire Doue was spotted wearing shoes in which Lionel Messi's name was written during the Club World Cup 2025 match against Inter Miami at the Mercedez-Benz Stadium at Atlanta in Georgia. In a picture surfaced on social media, the Argentinian footballer's name was written on the 20-year-old's shoe.
Messi, who has been the heart of Inter Miami since joining the club in 2023, couldn't work his magic against a well-oiled PSG team on Sunday. Joao Neves scored two goals, while Achraf Hakimi netted one to see off Inter Miami in the Round of 16 encounter at the Mercedez-Benz Stadium. The fourth goal was conceded by Tomas Aviles via an own goal.
"One painful mistake can decide the outcome" - Desire Doue
Before the match, Doue expressed the need to be wary of Inter Miami, given the quality they have. The youngster had stated that PSG need to focus on their quality of football and remain consistent. He said, as quoted by zamin.uz:
"Inter Miami is a very high-quality and balanced team. They have well-known players in their squad — stars with great experience and who have played in major championships. This team can cause serious problems for any opponent. This is a stage of trials. One painful mistake can decide the outcome. So we need to act with maximum focus and energy from the first minute. Respecting the opponent, our main goal is to display our style and the football we've shown throughout the season."
With that loss, Inter Miami-starrer Messi have bowed out of the tournament.
