Formula 1: Christian Horner Sacked By Red Bull F1 Team A Year After Sex Scandal

Laurent Mekies has been appointed as CEO of Red Bull Racing, stepping up from the Racing Bulls team.

In a major update from the world of Formula 1, Red Bull F1 team has sacked team principal Christian Horner after 20 years of service. The sackign comes a year after he was involved in sex scandal . Horner has been in charge of Red Bull since 2005, leading them to six Constructors and eight Drivers' Championships. Laurent Mekies has been appointed as CEO of Red Bull Racing, stepping up from the Racing Bulls team.

According to report by Yahoo, a statement from Red Bull read: “Red Bull has released Christian Horner from his operational duties with effect from today (Wednesday 9 July 2025) and has appointed Laurent Mekies as CEO of Red Bull Racing."

Oliver Mintzlaff, CEO Corporate Projects and Investments thanked Christian Horner for his exceptional work over the last 20 years.

Mintzlafff said, 'We would like to thank Christian Horner for his exceptional work over the last 20 years. With his tireless commitment, experience, expertise and innovative thinking, he has been instrumental in establishing Red Bull Racing as one of the most successful and attractive teams in Formula One.

He added,"Thank you for everything, Christian, and you will forever remain an important part of our team history.'

Horner reportedly said his farewells at the team’s factory in Milton Keynes on Wednesday morning. The shock decision comes a little over a year after Horner survived a scandal involving text messages he allegedly sent a female employee, for which he was twice non guilty of the claims by the Formula One team's parent company, Red Bull GmBH.

Christian Horner's career

Horner was the longest-serving team boss in Formula One and guided Red Bull to 124 Grand Prix victories during his time in charge. Both Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen claimed four drivers’ championships under his guidance.
