D Gukesh made history on Thursday, etching his name as the youngest World Chess Champion ever, defeating Ding Liren in the thrilling Game 14 of the 2024 World Chess Championship held in Singapore. At just 18 years old, Gukesh became the first teenager to claim the coveted title, marking a monumental moment in chess history.

After 13 intense games, the score was tied at 6.5-6.5, with both players on the brink of victory. According to FIDE rules, a player needed 7.5 points to win, or else the Championship would go to tiebreakers. Each win earned 1 point, while a draw gave 0.5 points. With both Gukesh and Ding needing just one more point to claim the title, Game 14 became a decisive showdown.

In a dramatic turn of events, Gukesh emerged victorious, securing his third win of the Championship. Ding won two games, while the remaining eight were drawn. It was a battle of nerves, strategy, and brilliance—and Gukesh stood tall as the victor. How much money will D Gukesh earn after winning Chess World Championship?

The 2024 World Chess Championship boasts a total prize pool of $2.5 million. According to FIDE’s rules, players are awarded $200,000 (₹1.68 crore approximately) for each win, with the remaining prize money to be split equally between the two finalists.

Gukesh triumphed in three games (Games 3, 11, and 14), earning $600,000 (₹5.04 crore approximately) from his victories, while Ding secured $400,000 (₹3.36 crore) for winning Games 1 and 12.

The remaining $1.5 million will be evenly divided between the two players.

In total, Gukesh earned $1.35 million (₹11.34 crore approximately), while Ding took home $1.15 million (₹9.66 crore approximately).

Following the victory D Gukesh shares thought about the overall campaign against Diren Ling. He said “The toughest challenge was losing the first game. It was humiliating. I needed some mental toughness at that moment. I had to endure these things which were tough. But I am happy it worked out well,”
