Liverpool and Egypt football star Mohamed Salah has called out UEFA over their tribute words for late Palestinian footballer Suleiman al-Obeid for failing to refer to the circumstances around his death. Replying to UEFA's post on X, Salah wrote, "Can you tell us how he died, where, and why?"
According to a BBC report, Al-Obeid had died on Thursday during an explosion while waiting for humanitarian aid in the Southern Gaza strip a day before that. The 41-year-old was fondly known as 'Palestinian Pele' and has reportedly netted more than 100 goals during his professional stint, including a couple in 24 international outings.

The 31-year-old had also previously raised his voice for humanity to prevail when the conflict between Israel and Palestine began in October 2023. In a statement, as quoted by BBC, Salah had stated:
"There has been too much violence, heartbreak and brutality."
As per The Guardian, the Palestine Football Association (PFA) stated that 288 sports facilities have been dismantled across Gaza and West Bank. Additionally, 662 sportspersons and their relatives have reportedly died since the conflict first started.

With the upcoming season of EPL set to get underway and Liverpool being the defending champions, Salah said the new signings have to earn their spots in the XI. Salah said, as quoted by liverpoolecho.uk:
"I just don't want people to forget that we won the Premier League with the players we (already) have. The ones coming now, they need to earn that thing in the media, they also need to show their quality and give it all to the fans. I don't want the fans to be just overexcited and also put pressure on them before they did anything. It's very good signings, but they need to show that in the games and to show that to the club."
The season gets underway on August 16.
