Arthi, Sanna win close matches to advance

Mumbai : The MSLTA Dreamzkraft all India women’s open tennis tournament conducted by Khar Gymkhana got off to a great start with two keenly fought first round encounters. Top seed Arthi Muniyan and Sanna Khanna won their respective close battles to progress to the second round on the first day of the tourney. In the first match of the tournament, Tamil Nadu’s Arthi lost the first set but, got her act together to win the next two as she overcame the stiff challenge of Telangana’s Sai Dedeepya 3-6, 6-4, 6-2. In the second match, Maharashtra’s Sanna also came back strongly after being a set down to defeat Madhuri Patere 4-6, 6-4, 6-2. In the other first round clashes, Aastha Dargude outplayed Prachi Naidu 6-1, 6-1 while, the fifth seed Preethi Ujjini of Karnataka convincingly beat Amreen Naaz 6-1, 6-2. The fourth seed Akshara Iska defeated Dakshata Patel 6-3, 6-1 and Harshasai Challa beat Moulika Ram 6-2, 6-1 to proceed to the second round.
