Former England captain Joe Root notched his 28th century in the longest format of the game on Day 5 of the fifth Test against India as the hosts inched closer to a historic win.

With this ton, Root went past Test greats like Virat Kohli (27) and former Australian skipper Steve Smith. (27).

Root and Jonny Bairstow put on a 200-run partnership in chase of 378 on the final day.
