The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) on Tuesday released an animation video of its much-awaited Artemis II mission. The video showed how the mission will look from launch to splashdown.
The mission is expected to be launched in early 2026 on Florida’s Space Coast. "A taste of what’s to come. This animation reveals in vivid detail how the Artemis II mission will launch from @NASAKennedy , fly around the Moon, and splash back down on Earth — all with four astronauts aboard," NASA said in its X post along with the video.

The Artemis II flight test will be NASA’s first mission with a crew of four astronauts and will fly close to the Moon. Notably, it will be the first time in five decades that humans will be so close to the Moon. The mission will pave the way to land the first woman and next man on the Moon on Artemis III, which is expected to be launched in 2027.
“The unique Artemis II mission profile will build upon the uncrewed Artemis I flight test by demonstrating a broad range of SLS and Orion capabilities needed on deep space missions,” said Mike Sarafin, Artemis mission manager.
“This mission will prove Orion’s critical life support systems are ready to sustain our astronauts on longer duration missions ahead and allow the crew to practice operations essential to the success of Artemis III," Sarafin added.
The mission will launch a crew of four astronauts from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida on a Block 1 configuration of the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket.
The four astronauts selected for the Artemis II mission are - Commander Reid Wiseman, pilot Victor Glover and mission specialist Christina Koch from NASA, and mission specialist Jeremy Hansen from the Canadian Space Agency.
