Director Lokesh Kanagaraj's upcoming film 'Leo' starring Thalapathy Vijay is one of the most speculated Tamil releases of 2023. The director has amassed a massive following down South within a span of six years, ever since he began his filmmaking stint with 'Maanagaram' in 2017.
As the director turns 37 on March 14, he was seen partying with his film's stars Sanjay Dutt and actress Trisha Krishnan on the sets of 'Leo'. Earlier on Tuesday morning, the hashtag #HappyBirthdayLokeshKanagaraj trended on Twitter with an outpour of birthday wishes for the director.
Rumours suggest that 'Leo' will also feature Malayalam superstar Prithviraj Sukumaran. The film is a gangster flick which has been penned by Kanagaraj, Rathna Kumar and Deeraj Vaidy. Popular composer Anirudh Ravichander, who worked on the chartbuster music of 'Master' and 'Vikram' will team up with the filmmaker for the third time with 'Leo'. The film will also mark Vijay's 67th film.
Hailed as the Nick Fury of Tamil cinema, Kanagaraj has paved his own Loki Cinematic Universe following the blockbuster successes of 'Kaithi' (2019) starring Karthi and 'Vikram' starring Kamal Haasan, Vijay Sethupathi and Fahadh Faashil. With 'Vikram' ending on the premise of a third film starring Suriya as Rolex Bhai, who was seen in an extended cameo in the climax, Lokesh hopes to take Tamil cinema forward by leaps and bounds. Given the brief promo released for 'Leo', a month ago, fans have already begun aspiring for a possible crossover of the film with the Loki Universe. If that happens then Kanagaraj would be credited with the ability to have brought some of Tamil cinema's most celebrated superstars together, on-screen.
