Much awaited inauguration of flyovers over the Ganeshkhind road and Sinhagad road in Pune have been delayed, said Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) officials speaking to the Free Press Journal. They were supposed to be inaugurated on August 15 but will need some more days.

“The delay in the flyover inauguration is caused because of unavailability of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis,” alleged opposition NCP (SP).

While the PMC municipal commissioner Naval Kishore Ram, said, “The section between Manikbaug and Hingane along the Sinhagad road flyover is about to complete. The inauguration is delayed because the pending work will need more time for completion.

The flyover on Ganeshkhind road which is being constructed by Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) will also be inaugurated at the same time.”

The 495-metre-long flyover from Vithalwadi to Veer Baji Pasalkar Udyan, that crosses the main junction of the Rajaram bridge was inaugurated first by the PMC.

Because the chief minister and deputy chief ministers have not given time for the inauguration the flyovers are not being opened despite their completion. Inconvenience to citizens must be considered by the authorities rather than waiting for the chief minister and deputy chief ministers for the inauguration,” said NCP (SP) spokesperson Sunil Mane citing heavy traffic congestion causing issues for commuters along Ganeskhind road and Sinhagad road.

The Sinhagad road flyover spans 1,540-metre-long while connecting to the city. The work from the Inamdar Chowk near Hingane to the Indian Hume Pipe Company at Manikbaug is almost complete and it crosses four junctions along the route.

The 495-metre-long flyover from Vithalwadi to Veer Baji Pasalkar Udyan, that crosses the main junction of the Rajaram bridge was inaugurated first by the PMC. Following which another section from Vithalwadi to Fun Time theatre on Sinhagad road in Vadgaon Budruk was made operational.

As the Sinhagad road is the only route connecting the suburbs of Dhayari, Vadgaon Budhruk and Khadakwasla to the city's central part, the flyover is expected to reduce traffic congestion.

Moreover, the metro route planned on the same road by MahaMetro is awaiting approval by the Union government for the construction of an elevated metro.

Yogesh Mhase, Metropolitan Commissioner, Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), said, “The section of the flyover easing traffic flow from Shivajinagar to Aundh is almost ready and will be open for public use in the next few days. However, the other two sections of the flyover from Shivajinagar to Baner and Pashan will require two more months for completion.”

The PMRDA has speeded up the completion of Ganeshkhind road flyover and as per BJP legislator’s demand has invited Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar for the flyover’s inauguration while their confirmation is awaited.
