Hence, this gender-biased mentality should be changed,” appealed Maharashtra Social Justice and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar District Guardian Minister Sanjay Shirsat.

Pandharpur Sarpanch Vaishali Raut, Vadad Sarpanch Amar Rajput, Wadgaon Sarpanch Sunil Kale, Patoda Sarpanch Kapindra Pere, Sub-Divisional Officer Dr Vyankat Rathod, Tehsildar Shivanand Bidve, Additional Tehsildar Dr Paresh Chaudhary, Block Development Officer Meena Raotale, Temple Trust President Rajendra Pawar, Adv Lalit Shirsat, Dr Shraddha Swami, Vikas Jain and students and villagers were present in large numbers. The programme began after garlanding the portrait of Savitribai Phule.

Shirsat further said girls’ and boys’ equality should not remain only on paper, but it should be implemented scrupulously. Girls are doing well in every field and are securing good positions in areas that were earlier considered unsuitable for them. Hence, parents should encourage girls in their studies and careers, he said.

A scheme to pay Rs 2,100 to parents after the birth of a girl is being implemented in Wadad village. The amount was paid to the parents by Shirsat on the occasion.

Adv Shirsat informed the residents about the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act and about the care to be taken for mother and child. Ashasevika Puja Salve and student Puja Pawar expressed their views on the occasion.

Dr Vyankat Rathod made an introduction to Dr Vyankat Rathod. Praveen Lohade conducted the proceedings of the function, while Shivanand Bidve proposed a vote of thanks.
