The electricity supply of 55 consumers in Velha Budruk village of Rajgad (Velhe) taluka was disrupted since Sunday due to a broken pole. The local consumers continuously followed up with the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) to restore the electric supply. The restoration of electricity was difficult; therefore, a private contractor was appointed.

The continuous rain and strong winds made the work difficult. However, the workers carried the iron pole on their shoulders. They also took care not to damage the rice crops while erecting it. After erecting the pole and pulling the wires, the electricity supply was restored. The villagers present on this occasion praised the MSEDCL and the contractor workers.

While erecting the electric pole, the workers carried the iron electricity pole over one and a half kilometers away in heavy rain, restoring power supply that had been out for five days. Due to waterlogged fields and slushy, unmotorable paths, the contractor's team had no option but to physically lift and carry the heavy iron pole over one and a half kilometres. The route passed through narrow bunds between paddy fields, requiring not just strength, but immense coordination and care.

Locals praise workers

“They didn’t trample over the standing rice crops as it’s a livelihood for the villagers. The workers braved the storm and brought back the light. Usually, in such cases, it takes more than a week to restore the electricity, but the MSEDCL team was quick to respond to our issues. We are glad we got the electricity after four days,” said a local resident.

MSEDCL officials commended the efforts of both their local team and the contractor. “Such commitment in rural and remote areas is what ensures reliable power supply even during the harshest monsoon spells,” an official said.
