A man in Rajapur, Dharmabad taluka in Nanded district staged a unique agitation to protest against the acute water scarcity in the district.

With the advent of the summer season, the Marathwada region is facing severe water scarcity. The administration is providing water to far and remote places through water tankers. Still, the water needs of the residents are not being met. The villagers are struggling hard for drinking water, and the issue of irrigation for farms remains unaddressed.

The government has spent crores of rupees, but the villagers of Rajapur have still not received an adequate water supply. A villager condemned the apathy of the government toward water supply and initiated an agitation by bathing in a dirty nullah in protest.

Huge funds received by village

Vilas Shinde Rajapurkar, a youth from Rajapur village, staged this unique protest. Rajapur has received Rs 1.17 crore in the past ten years for the water supply in the village. Still, the villagers have to wander miles just to fetch a pot of water. They even have to purchase expensive water from private suppliers through tankers.

Alleging large-scale corruption in the water-supply scheme, Vilas bathed in the dirty nullah to condemn the administration and grab the government's attention to the problem of water scarcity.
