Speaking during the ongoing monsoon session of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Siddharth Shirole urged the government to establish a proper system for the maintenance and upkeep of CCTV cameras in schools across the state.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the Shivajinagar MLA wrote, "In the Vidhan Sabha, I shared that while the government is undertaking the important initiative of installing CCTV cameras across schools in Maharashtra, it must also simultaneously establish a proper system for their maintenance and upkeep."
"The government is investing significantly to expand the CCTV network in government schools. Without a structured maintenance mechanism, this investment may not deliver long-term benefits. I further inquired whether this new infrastructure would integrate artificial intelligence to enable smarter, real-time surveillance and whether such provisions are being included in procurement guidelines," he added.
Replying to his question, Education Minister Dada Bhuse said, "All new infrastructure will be implemented with future-ready technology in mind, and due consideration will be given to both AI integration and long-term functionality."
Earlier, Shirole raised the issue of rising cyber crimes in Pune. He urged the government to set up five cyber police stations in the city to tackle this menace.
He wrote on X, "I brought to the notice of the House a critical issue — the rising number of cyber crimes in Pune and the urgent need for five new Cyber Police Stations across the city. Cyber fraud is no longer rare. From fake calls to online scams, too many citizens are falling victim every single day. I shared real incidents in the House to show just how serious and personal this problem has become."
"I also urged the government to invest in better-trained cyber police, faster response systems, and awareness programs in schools. We must ensure banks cooperate fully with investigations and that victims have a real shot at getting their stolen money back," he added.
Shirole stated that the Minister of State for Home, Yogesh Kadam, responded positively to his demands and promised that steps would be taken towards making Pune digitally safer and more secure.
