Locked in a fierce political battle, NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) candidate Supriya Sule has triumphed over all odds and won the Baramati Lok Sabha seat for the fourth consecutive time. She was locked in a rare battle with Sunetra Pawar, the wife of her cousin Ajit Pawar.
According to the Election Commission of India (ECI) website at 4:30pm, Sule is leading by 29,335 votes over Sunetra Pawar. Currently, Sule has 2,49,812 votes while Pawar has 2,20,477.
The constituency is considered to be the pocket borough of the Pawar family with Sharad Pawar having represented it multiple times after first being elected to the seat in 1984. However, with a fight within the Pawar family, this seat became a hot topic across the country.
The average Baramati voter was torn between loyalty to the uncle, Sharad Pawar, who founded the (undivided) NCP in 1999, and his nephew Ajit Pawar who split the party in July 2023 and joined the ruling coalition of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Eknath Shinde's faction of Shiv Sena.
During her campaign, Sule had exuded confidence about winning this time too due to her past work and the development she brought to the constituency.
