Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar is known for the world heritage sites of Ajanta and Ellora Caves all over the world. Several foreign tourists visit these monuments every year. However, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), which is responsible for maintaining these sites, seems to be apathetic towards providing facilities and security to the foreign tourists. The foreign tourists come to the city by the luxurious Deccan Odyssey train and visit the historic places in the city.
Last Monday, some foreign tourists came and visited Ellora caves, but they were attacked by a bunch of honey bees in the caves. They were injured in the attack and the issue of the security of the tourists in the caves came to the fore.
After the bees’ attack in Ellora caves on Monday, the foreign tourists were attacked by the bees at the Ajanta caves on Tuesday. Some tried to save themselves by covering themselves with dupattas and some of them managed to escape.
As the summer is getting severe, the incidents of attacks by the bees at historic sites of Daulatabad fort, Ellora, and Ajanta are on the rise. Around 90 tourists were attacked in cave No. 15 in Ellora on Monday. The tourists included five foreign tourists as well. They were immediately taken to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for treatment. The very next day, the foreign tourists were attacked in Ajanta Caves. There were around 100 domestic and foreign tourists on the spot. The bees attacked the tourists at around 11 am on Tuesday. A tourist from Australia was seriously injured and was rushed to a local hospital for treatment.
