A 27-year-old businessman, Chetan Vasant Padwal, residing in Ozone Villas Society on Lohgaon Road, Wagholi, was arrested by Pune police on Tuesday. He faced charges of assaulting a food delivery agent following an argument about the delayed delivery of a pizza he had ordered, culminating in his firing a round into the air using his licensed firearm.
According to police reports, the incident unfolded on a Monday night around 10:30pm when Padwal placed a pizza order via the Zomato app. The delivery agents, Rahul Ghorpade and his colleague Rishikesh Annapurne, arrived at Padwal's residence at approximately 11:00pm. Although it should have been a routine delivery, the situation took a distressing turn when Padwal, in a fit of anger, verbally berated the delivery personnel due to the delay. The situation quickly escalated, leading to a physical assault by Padwal on Annapurne.
The confrontation turned hostile, with Padwal grabbing Annapurne's collar and questioning his presence. Shockingly, Padwal then went to his car, parked in front of the house, retrieved a pistol, loaded it, and discharged a single round into the air.
Responding to this incident, the Lonikand Police Station has registered a case against Padwal, with Sub-Inspector Suraj Gore overseeing the investigation.
