Hundreds of litres of drinking water were wasted after a pipeline burst on BMCC Road near IMDR canteen on Tuesday. The pipeline was damaged during drilling work carried out for the metro project. Residents and activists expressed frustration over the lack of immediate response from the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC).

Prashant Velankar, an activist, said, "No one listens and no one cares. Since yesterday, a 12-inch diameter drinking water pipeline has burst on BMCC Road, causing lakhs of litres of water to be wasted. The situation remains the same even today. This precious drinking water is getting wasted due to negligence by the civic body. Some repair work is going on here and the labourers damaged the water pipeline on March 18. There was a water cut so the leakage wasn't seen, but from March 19, the water has continuously been wasted. We informed the local civic administration but still, the issue has not been resolved."
Residents criticised the PMC for its lack of urgency in addressing emergencies. They also claimed that had this happened during peak hours, the situation could have been worse as the forceful burst had left potholes filled with water, making the road wet and slippery and raising safety issues for commuters and pedestrians.
Sagar Kale, a resident of Karve Nagar, said, "On the BMCC Road, there's water pipeline work going on and there was damage due to which a lot of water got wasted, so we informed the civic officials on March 19. Even though they came and did the repair work, the water leakage stopped for a while but after some time the pipeline burst again and since then the water has been flowing and getting wasted."
Meanwhile, Nandakishor Jagtap, Chief Engineer of PMC's Water Department, is yet to respond on the issue.
