Pune Traffic: After Closing 16 Signals In City, Pune Police To Target Sinhagad Road Signals And Right Turns Next In Decongestion Drive |

Pune traffic police have shut down 16 right-turn traffic signals at various major intersections including Nagar Road, Fatima Nagar, Chandan Nagar, and Viman Nagar areas to decongest city roads and improve traffic flow. Alternate routes have been provided for motorists affected by the changes.

A major traffic signal at Sinhagad Road will be closed soon.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Amol Zende, speaking to Free Press Journal, said the decision has been taken to increase vehicle movement speed and reduce bottlenecks at key junctions on major roads known for heavy vehicle count.

Till now, in the initial phase, we have closed 16 right-turn signals and are monitoring the impact closely. A few more signals on Sinhagad Road are also under review and may be closed in the coming days.

On Nagar Road, from Shastri Nagar to Wagholi, a stretch of 10 kilometers has no right turn from the signal. We have provided a substitute route which saves approximately 16–20 minutes for citizens. Earlier, it was taking more than 40 minutes.

Similarly, we are working on the signal installed at Sinhagad Road, which creates a hurdle for vehicles going towards Swargate and Katraj. We are reviewing it, and soon signals for the right turn will be closed and a substitute route will be given to them.

This is so that people from Sinhagad, Dhayari, Narhe, and Wadgaon who are heading to Swargate or Katraj can reach without any interruption.

Currently, there are 302 traffic signals active in Pune city, out of which 105 are based on Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) technology. Installation of fully automatic signals is under review.
