Pune: To strengthen its financial position, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has decided to constitute a Revenue Enhancement Committee.

The decision was taken during the Standing Committee meeting, informed its Chairman, Shrinath Bhimale. Highlighting the need for such a committee, Bhimale said that a detailed review of the civic body’s budgets over the past decade revealed a considerable mismatch between projected revenue and actual income.

“There is a clear gap between expected and realised revenue. The newly formed committee will focus on identifying the reasons behind this shortfall and implementing concrete measures to enhance income,” he stated.

The committee will also work towards improving the efficiency of revenue collection systems and ensuring stricter implementation of financial targets. A dedicated revenue enhancement cell will be established to support its functioning and to monitor progress on a regular basis.

The panel will comprise the Additional Municipal Commissioner along with officials from key departments such as property tax, building permissions and other revenue-generating wings.

Importantly, it will include members from the ruling side, opposition, and other parties to ensure a balanced and transparent approach. Bhimale further stated that the committee will hold weekly review meetings, with a strong focus on boosting tax collection and expediting recovery of pending dues.

“Through systematic monitoring and coordinated efforts, we aim to make revenue management more effective and improve PMC’s financial stability,” he added.

Civic officials believe that this move will not only streamline revenue mechanisms but also provide the much-needed financial push for infrastructure development and public services in the city.
