Sant Tukaram Nagar: An ICICI Bank branch near the Auto Cluster in Pimpri-Chinchwad has received fake ₹200 notes. A total of nine notes were determined to be fake in a bundle submitted by a medicine shop owner.
This incident happened in March 2025, and a case was registered at Sant Tukaram Nagar Police Station on Tuesday. The Deputy Manager of the ICICI Bank Pimpri branch lodged a complaint with the police.
A case under BNS Section 179 (using as genuine, forged, or counterfeit coin, government stamp, currency notes, or banknotes) has been registered against an unknown person.

According to police reports, on 20th March 2025, ICICI Bank's Pimpri branch in Empire Estate received nine ₹200 notes in a bundle, all of which were fake. After an internal investigation, it was determined that Anand Gandhi, the owner of Anand Medico, had submitted those notes to the bank.
When questioned, Gandhi claimed that he runs a wholesale business and has daily transactions with over 100 retail stores, making it difficult for the bank to determine who was responsible for the fake notes.

The complaint was filed with the police on Tuesday, and Police Sub-Inspector Atawe from Sant Tukaram Nagar Police Station is investigating the matter further.
A police official from Pimpri-Chinchwad Police clarified that the notes indeed look similar to the original currency. However, deep analysis and a cash counting machine determined them to be fake.
A similar case was registered on 3rd July at Hinjawadi Police Station. In this case, the accused had submitted fake notes which had "Children Bank of India" written over them instead of the Reserve Bank of India to complete a ₹7.50 lakh deal. Three arrests were made then.
Also, on the same day, it was reported that ₹3,000 worth (six notes of ₹500) were submitted in a jewellery shop in Nigdi. The scam was subtle, as in a huge deal, a small amount of fake notes was slipped in.
