In a significant move to address the rising burden of allergies, Pune's Inamdar Multispeciality Hospital has launched a specialised Allergy Department.

The department will be led by two of Pune’s leading specialists: Dr Vishal Shah, Pediatric Allergy & Asthma Specialist, and Dr Seemab Shaikh, Senior ENT & Allergy Consultant.

Why a dedicated Allergy Department matters?

Allergies are often silent disruptors, affecting everything from respiratory health to digestion and skin. Despite affecting nearly 20–30% of India’s population, allergies frequently go undiagnosed or are managed superficially, leading to poor treatment outcomes and recurring symptoms.

The World Allergy Organisation (WAO) and the European Academy of Allergology and Clinical Immunology (EAACI) emphasise the importance of early testing to avoid misdiagnosis and improve recovery, especially in chronic or complex cases.

Advanced Tools

The department features cutting-edge diagnostic facilities, including Skin Prick Tests (SPT), Blood IgE Testing, Pulmonary Function Tests (PFT), Component Resolved Diagnostics (CRD), Oral Food Challenge Tests and complete ENT examination with diagnostic nasal endoscopies.

Speaking at the launch, the hospital administration said, "Our goal is to close the gap between awareness and treatment. The launch of this department reflects our ongoing commitment to family-centered, specialised care."
