The Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) outbreak in Pune has subsided considerably, health officials said on Wednesday, adding that there were no new hospital admissions linked to the rare neurological disorder on Monday and Tuesday.

Dr Radhakishan Pawar, Deputy Director of Health Services, Pune, said, "We haven't had a single GBS case from Pune city since the last few weeks. The few cases that have been reported are from the peripherals of Pune district."

According to the latest GBS report, PMC reported zero cases of GBS since the start of this month. A total of 180 people have been discharged, while 25 are still in intensive care, including 15 on ventilator support. The death toll stands at 12. More than 198 people have been affected by the GBS outbreak, with 33 cases coming from Pimpri-Chinchwad and at least 15 patients from neighbouring districts, health department data showed.

7,262 water samples from different parts of the city have been sent for chemical and biological analysis to the Public Health Laboratory, and samples from 144 water sources have been found contaminated. In house-to-house surveillance activities, 46,534 houses in PMC, 29,209 in PCMC and 13,956 in Pune rural areas have been surveyed. 82 serum samples have been sent to NIMHANS Bengaluru for Antiganglioside Antibodies testing.
