Pune: The Anti-Extortion Cell of Pune Police has arrested a 24-year-old man who allegedly supplied a pistol in a Rs 75 lakh contract killing plot involving a father who wanted his own son dead. The case is linked to a failed shooting incident that took place two years ago on Jangali Maharaj Road (JM Road).

The accused has been identified as Nilesh Shrikant Gaikwad, a resident of Pisoli. Police said he had been on the run after a case was registered under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) of 1999 in connection with the crime.

According to police officials, the incident occurred on 16th April 2024, when two attackers tried to shoot the son of a well-known developer outside his office. However, the attempt failed as the pistol did not fire. The attackers then fled the scene on a two-wheeler.

During the investigation, Shivajinagar Police found that the developer had hired the attackers by offering Rs 75 lakh to kill his son due to a family dispute. The police had earlier arrested the developer and the main accused involved in the attempted murder.

Gaikwad, who allegedly supplied the weapon, had been absconding since then. Acting on a tip-off, the Anti-Extortion Cell tracked his movement in Pisoli. Officer Nitin Mundhe received information that Gaikwad would come to meet his mother.

Based on this input, the police laid a trap and arrested him. The operation was carried out under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Police Nikhil Pingle. Further investigation is ongoing to gather more details about the case.
