A shocking incident has come to light from Pune's Bibwewadi, where an MBBS doctor, who was working in a renowned hospital in the city till a few months ago, has turned out to be a drug smuggler.
The anti-narcotics squad of the crime branch arrested three people, including the doctor, and seized 56 grams of Mephedrone (MD) worth ₹15 lakh from them in front of the Nimantran Hotel in Bibwewadi, officials said on Thursday.
The accused doctor has been identified as Mohammad alias Ayan Jarun Sheikh (27, resident of Undri), while the other two are Samuel Balasaheb Pratap (28, resident of Hingne Khurd) and Aniket Vitthal Kudle (27, resident of Narayan Peth), they added.
A case has been registered against them at Bibwewadi Police Station on July 16.
According to the police, Mohammed Sheikh is originally from Jammu and has completed his MBBS education. He was practising medicine in a renowned hospital in the central part of the city.
"Two years back, he was arrested in a case of the supply of illegal narcotics. After that, he was suspended from the post of doctor. Still, he did not stop smuggling. Now, for the second time, he has been caught in the police net again in a drug smuggling case. Along with Mohammed Sheikh, Kudle was also arrested in the Bundgarden area in a drug smuggling case. It has been reported that these people are providing MD to people they know," they added.

Assistant Police Inspector of the Anti-Narcotics Cell, Anil Survase, speaking to The Free Press Journal, said, "The anti-narcotics squad of the police had received information that three people had come in a car and were standing near Nimantran Hotel in Bibwewadi to smuggle drugs. Acting on the information, police raided the car and found a total of 56 grams of MD valued at ₹15 lakh, including MD worth ₹5 lakh seized from Sheikh, ₹6.38 lakh from Samuel Pratap, and ₹3.25 lakh from Kudle. Along with this, the police also seized the car and mobile phones used in the crime."
Further investigation is underway.
