A businessman from Delhi was allegedly robbed by an auto-rickshaw driver at knifepoint after visiting Bhimashankar from Pune. The incident took place on Saturday between 9:15 am and 4:30 pm.
The victim, Suresh Chandra Chauhan (69), a resident of Badarpur, South Delhi, lodged a complaint at Bund Garden Police Station.
According to police, Chauhan had come to Pune for work and exited from the parcel gate of Pune railway station around 9:30 am. He was approached by an auto-rickshaw driver, who offered to take him to Bhimashankar for darshan. The fare was fixed in advance, and the two left around 9:15 am.
They reached Bhimashankar by 1 pm. After darshan, they started their return journey at around 4 pm. On the way back, the rickshaw driver took a forest route and asked Chauhan to get down. He then threatened him with a knife, forced him to transfer ₹19,500 through Google Pay and took ₹15,000 in cash from his pocket.
The driver then fled, leaving Chauhan stranded in the forest. Chauhan managed to get help from passers-by and returned to Pune, where he filed a police complaint.
Police are reviewing CCTV footage from the parcel gate area of Pune railway station to trace the suspect.
