A sit-in protest started by Class 3 and Class 4 daily wage workers in front of the Tribal Commissionerate in Nashik took a violent turn on Friday (July 11) evening. Around noon, the women protesters became more aggressive and tried to break the barricades. However, the police administration showed alertness and stopped them in time, which averted further disaster. After some time, the protesting women calmed down and resumed the sit-in protest. The protesters have expressed their determination to continue the protest until they get a written assurance.

In this regard, on Friday, MP Bhaskar Bhagare and local leaders of the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi tried to resolve the issue by discussing it with Tribal Commissioner Leena Bansod. However, these discussions proved fruitless, and the protesters remain firm in their stand. The Tribal Commissioner was escorted by police from the Commissionerate.

Waiting for permission in the Commissionerate area

The protesters had sought permission to protest in the Tribal Commissionerate area. However, the Commissionerate informed them that the protest could be held in the area only with the permission of the District Collector and the Police Commissioner. After that, the protesters were waiting for permission till late at night.

Heavy police deployment for three days

Since the protest of daily wage workers started on Wednesday (July 9), a large contingent of police has been deployed at the protest site to maintain law and order. Since the protest has been going on for three days, the police have also been facing heavy rains while keeping an eye on the protesters and the situation. There was a huge traffic jam in front of the Tribal Commissionerate on Friday as the protest continued, but the police tried to control the situation by making vehicles wait.
