In an era where the Indian higher education system is undergoing transformative change, MIT Art, Design and Technology University (MIT-ADTU), Pune, has carved a unique space for itself as an institution that blends academic excellence with holistic growth, research, innovation and entrepreneurship. With recognition from the University Grants Commission (UGC) and a growing presence on the global academic map, MIT-ADTU is much more than a conventional university — it is a visionary movement rooted in India's cultural ethos and aimed at building the future of the nation.

Legacy and leadership

At the heart of MIT-ADTU’s philosophy lies the vision of its founder, Prof Dr Vishwanath Karad, a pioneering educationist committed to preserving India’s cultural heritage while advancing global learning. His vision found architectural expression in the iconic World Peace Dome on the banks of the Mula-Mutha River — a structure that has become a global symbol of peace, harmony and universal brotherhood. Situated on a picturesque 150-acre campus, once owned by legendary actor Raj Kapoor, the university reflects a seamless blend of heritage and modernity.

A diverse academic landscape

MIT-ADTU offers a wide array of disciplines ranging from Marine and Aerospace Engineering to Architecture, Law, Film, Design, Vedic Sciences, Music and Indian Civil Services. These academic programmes are designed not just for employability but for creating well-rounded global citizens. Under the guidance of Executive President Prof Dr Mangesh Karad, the university has created the MIT School of Holistic Development — an innovative initiative focused on nurturing physical fitness, emotional intelligence, communication skills, creativity and spiritual awareness.

Holistic growth through SHD

The School of Holistic Development (SHD) encourages students to engage in courses such as yoga, meditation, performing arts, societal immersion and Cambridge-certified communication programmes. This ensures that students graduate not just with degrees, but with purpose, awareness and strong values.

Research, innovation and entrepreneurship

Research and innovation are cornerstones of the MIT-ADTU ecosystem. Through platforms such as CRIEYA, SCIL, SHD and the Atal Incubation Centre under NITI Aayog’s Atal Innovation Mission, the university actively promotes interdisciplinary research and start-up culture. With over 125 patents, 400+ copyrights, nearly 900 publications and more than 90 active start-up incubations, MIT-ADTU is at the forefront of knowledge creation and application.

The Ministry of Education’s Innovation Council has awarded the university a 5-star rating, and its performance in the Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements (ARIIA) places it in the “Excellent” band, testaments to its robust commitment to fostering a culture of innovation.

Global rankings and accreditations

MIT-ADTU’s achievements have also been recognised on the global academic stage. The university has earned an ‘A’ grade accreditation from NAAC in its very first cycle, with a CGPA of 3.11. It features in the QS World University Rankings (2024) for Art & Design within the 150–200 band and has also made its debut in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2025. Further bolstering its reputation, the World’s Universities with Real Impact (WURI) Rankings 2025 placed MIT-ADTU ninth globally. Domestically, the university was placed in the top 51–100 institutions for innovation under the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF).

Creativity in cinema and performing arts

Students from MIT-ADTU continue to shine in the field of creative arts and cinema. Vishesh Iyer, a student from the MIT School of Film & Theatre, was awarded the ‘Most Promising Director’ at the 68th National Film Awards. A film produced by Prof Dr Mangesh Karad also received national recognition from President Droupadi Murmu. These achievements reinforce the university’s commitment to nurturing creative expression alongside academic excellence.

Sustainable, inclusive and world-class campus

The campus itself is a model of sustainable and inclusive development. It has been honoured with the Best University Campus Award by ASSOCHAM, and it is designed to be carbon-neutral, spiritually integrated and environmentally conscious. Advanced infrastructure such as Apple Labs, smart classrooms, modern laboratories and well-equipped hostels support an enriching academic and social environment. The university also ensures that education is accessible through scholarships and earn-while-you-learn programs.

Global collaborations for a global future

MIT-ADTU has strategic tie-ups with institutions such as the University of Cambridge (UK), California State University (USA), George Brown College (Canada), Federation University (Australia), Shibaura Institute of Technology (Japan) and the University of Agriculture (Poland), among others. These partnerships facilitate student and faculty exchanges, collaborative research and global academic immersion programmes.

Strong industry linkages and record placements

MIT-ADTU also prides itself on its strong industry connections and placement support. The Central Corporate Relations, Training and Placement Cell ensures that students are industry-ready. Recent success stories include Anushree Gund, who received a record-breaking placement offer of ₹58 LPA, and Soniya Jadhav, who secured a package of ₹53.32 LPA. The university’s alumni are now working with top firms, including Google, Microsoft, Palo Alto Networks, Deloitte and TCS, among others.

Sports, wellness and campus life

Sports and wellness are integral to life at MIT-ADTU. The university hosts the annual Vishwanath Sports Meet, which attracts over 3,500 participants from more than 100 universities. The MIT Sports Academy offers professional facilities in swimming, rowing, archery, tennis and more, fostering a culture of health and excellence.

A university that dares to dream

MIT-ADTU is not just an academic institution — it is a dynamic force shaping the future of India. By combining a global outlook with Indian values, academic innovation with spiritual grounding and technical expertise with artistic expression, MIT-ADTU stands as a model for the next generation of universities. It is a university that dares to dream — and cares to achieve it.
