Vishrambaug Police in Pune have arrested a 47-year-old man posing as an Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the office of Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. The accused allegedly tried to cheat a complainant by promising compensation in a software fraud case.
The incident occurred on Wednesday evening around 4 pm. The accused has been identified as Pradyuman Srihari Patil, a resident of Hinjawadi.
According to the information received, a software fraud case was registered at Samarth Police Station in 2021 and is currently pending before the court. The accused allegedly contacted the complainant through a mutual acquaintance and claimed he works as an OSD in the Deputy CM’s office. He promised to secure out-of-court compensation with police assistance and demanded a 10 per cent commission.
On Wednesday afternoon, Patil visited the DCP office and introduced himself as an OSD from Shinde’s office. Initially, police officials were taken aback by his claim. He met DCP Rawale and began alleging that the police had not properly investigated the previous case and had ignored his messages.
Suspicious of his claims, DCP Rawale verified the information with the Deputy CM’s office, which confirmed that no such person was appointed as OSD. Upon further investigation, his actual identity was revealed.
Acting on the incident, a case under Section 204 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023 (deals with personating a public servant), was registered at Vishrambaug Police Station.
Further investigation is underway.
