In yet another episode of Koyta-related crime, two youths vandalized a pan tapri in Pimpri area of Pune on March 24, officials said on Wednesday. The youths allegedly threatened the vendor, saying, "Hum yahake bhai hain, kiski g*nd mein dum hai bahar aao" (We are the bhais of this area, come out if you have guts).
The complaint was lodged at Pimpri Police Station by Sachin Gaikwad (33), a resident of Bharatnagar in Pimpri. According to the FIR, over an old dispute, two minors threatened Gaikwad and vandalized the tapri of his brother-in-law. The youths were brandishing Koytas and created panic by shouting and vandalizing in the area.
A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
Koyta related crimes
This is not the first such crime in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad. Threatening and vandalizing vehicles by brandishing Koytas has become a common sight in Pune. Recently, a gang armed with Koytas reached a man's society in the Dattanagar area of Katraj.
According to the information received, the accused, Aditya Ranjane, operates a tea stall at Trimurti Chowk near Bharati Vidyapeeth. At 6 am, a dispute over payment of a tea bill turned violent. Dayaram Sutar, who resides in a society in Dattanagar, intervened and stopped the fight. After some time, everyone left the place.
Later, in a fit of rage, Ranjane and the others involved in the fight stormed Sutar's society and reached his home armed with Koytas. They inquired whether he was at home. Upon learning that he wasn’t there, they left. The video of the incident has gone viral on social media, showing the suspects carrying sharp weapons.
Speaking to The Free Press Journal, Senior Inspector Sharad Zine from Ambegaon Police Station informed that a case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). "We have sent a team in search of the accused. They will be arrested soon," he added.
