The Maharashtra state cabinet has granted administrative approval for the strengthening and leakage prevention work of the Temghar project in Mulshi taluka, Pune district, with a budget allocation of Rs 315.5 crore. The decision was made during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday.

At the cabinet meeting, which was presided over by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, a number of significant decisions pertaining to the departments of revenue, water resources, and soil and water conservation were taken.

Safety risks avoided

The Temghar dam supplies 3,409 million liters of drinking water annually to Pune city, while it also irrigates 1,000 hectares of land in Mulshi taluka through its Kolhapur-style canal. However, leakage issues in the dam have resulted in significant water wastage, posing potential safety risks to the dam and the city. Several committees have highlighted these concerns in their reports.

Given these recommendations, immediate action is required to address the leakage problem. The proposed work will prevent further leakage, ensuring a continuous supply of water for irrigation and benefiting farmers. The state cabinet has approved the necessary funding of Rs 315.5 crore to strengthen the dam and eliminate the leakage.

The Maharashtra Cabinet meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, recently took place, where several important decisions were made regarding the revenue, water resources, and soil and water conservation departments.
