Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, speaking at a review meeting held at the Sahyadri Guest House on Wednesday, directed the construction of an underpass from Yerawada to Katraj to speed up communication in Pune city.

This underpass should be of the 'twin tunnel' type, new technology should be used for its construction and proposal in this regard should be submitted immediately, he added.

Along with Pune, a meeting of the Nashik, Nagpur, and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Metropolitan Region Development Authorities was held.

Funds approved

Meanwhile, a fund of Rs 636.84 crore was approved for the proposed new Purandar airport road network, and Rs 203 crore for cement roads in Ranjangaon and Hinjewadi industrial areas in the meeting. A provision of Rs 1526 crore was made to build a road network for the 'Urban Growth Center'. Chief Minister Fadnavis also directed the creation of good connectivity from the Pune City Bypass, Pune-Satara, and Pune-Ahilyanagar roads to Purandar Airport.

"The roads should be 18 meters wide while building a new city. Infrastructure facilities should be included considering the future population. The Regional Development Authority should immediately complete the work of water supply schemes for drinking water. The authorities should launch an updated website with maximum online facilities available," directed Fadnavis as he gave instructions to keep the development charges affordable for citizens.

The Chief Minister said that, considering the time taken in preparing the development plan, the authorities should prepare the development plan in two phases. "The first phase should include roads, sewage, water supply, electricity supply, crematorium, burial ground, etc. After that, other facilities should be included in the second phase," he added.

Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil, Social Justice Minister Sanjay Shirsat, and officials were present at the meeting of the Pune and Nashik Regional Development Authorities at the Sahyadri Guest House, while the meeting of the Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar Authority was attended by Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Minister of State for Urban Development Madhuri Misal, and others.

Outline approved

The authorities have been given approval for the outline as required. These appointments should be regularised by filling up the posts on deputation at present. The meeting also decided to provide the government land available to the authorities for planning developmental works free of cost.

Suggesting changes in the rules to make the roads 18 meters wide in the development plan, Fadnavis said a good quality consultancy agency should be appointed while planning development plans. "The authorities should focus on water reuse, considering the future population. For this, projects should be implemented using new technologies. Construction permission should be given only after considering the availability of water," he added.

PMPML Buses

The Chief Minister said, while providing buses to the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML), the authority should consider its manpower, repair system, and population. Initially, electric buses were given to the Pune Corporation. Due to these buses, citizens could travel in air-conditioned mode at a very low price. "The corporations have demanded 500 buses from the authority. These buses should be CNG. Care should be taken to ensure that there are no management issues in the future. The action to provide the land in the Pune Raj Bhavan premises for the flyover service of the Metro should be completed immediately," he added.
