The residents have achieved success in their long-standing demand for the removal of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system along the Pune-Nagar highway. Following orders from Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has started work to remove the system.
The PMC started removing the partial BRT from Somnath Nagar Chowk to Kharadi Juna Zakat Naka on the city road on Saturday night.
This decision comes after repeated calls from citizens for the removal of the BRT system, which they claim has been causing traffic jams, accidents, and inconvenience to commuters. The system, which was initially implemented to improve public transport, has instead faced criticism for creating congestion, especially during peak hours.
Meanwhile, on the orders of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, the PMC has started removing the BRT route that is obstructing traffic on Ahilyanagar Road.
Credit war begins
While the current MLA of Wadgaon Sheri, Bapussaheb Pathare, has claimed the credit for this, former MLA Sunil Tingre also claimed that the work is being done due to his follow-up.
"As per the order given by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, this partial BRT was constantly causing accidents and traffic jams. I had demanded from Pawar last week that it should be removed immediately. Pawar immediately ordered the municipal commissioner to remove the BRT. Accordingly, the PMC took action," said Tingre as he posted visuals of the work on X.

Earlier, removing the BRT from Yerawada to Viman Nagar Chowk had brought relief to the traffic congestion.
Tingre said that now removing the BRT from Somnath Nagar Chowk to Kharadi Juna Zakat Naka will bring great relief from the traffic congestion on Ahilyanagar Road.
While taking credit for the work, Tingre also said that he will continue the follow-up on the double-decker flyover from Wagholi to Viman Nagar in the coming time.
