A woman Kirtankar Sangeeta Pawar was murdered by smashing her head with a stone; the jewellery of the temple and donation boxes were also stolen around two days back.

It has been cleared in the police investigation that the murder was done with the intention of theft. The police have arrested two suspects, natives of Madhya Pradesh who work as labourers on farms. The arrested have been identified as Santosh alias Bhayla Jagan Chavhan (22) and Anil alias Habda Narayan Vilala (23), both residents of Sendhva, Madhya Pradesh. The police arrested both of them on Tuesday night, and they are habitual addicts, the police said.

Here's what happned

Pawar was murdered by smashing her head with a stone in the temple at Chinchadgaon in Vaijapur taluka on June 27. A day before the murder, both the accused planned the theft in the temple and decided to steal the jewellery of the Goddesses at Sadguru Narayangiri Ashram’s Mothatadevi temple in Chinchadgaon. At night, they consumed drugs and entered the temple. They had heard about Sangeeta Pawar living in the Ashram and that she would create a hurdle in their plan. Hence, they smashed her head with a stone while she was sleeping. After the theft, Anil went to his native village while Santosh was planning to leave on Tuesday afternoon. Anil was working in the district as a farm labourer for the past five to six years, while Santosh for the past one and a half years.

It was expected that the murder was done over the land dispute of the Ashram. The accused entered the temple by breaking the lock and the door of the temple. They then stole the donation boxes, jewellery, and idol from the temple and fled away. The Veergaon police API Shankar Waghmore and the team of the local crime branch were searching for the accused. Based on the technical evidence, Santosh was arrested on the Maharashtra – Madhya Pradesh border on Tuesday night and Anil from his village.
