Taking cognisance of complaints lodged by locals against gamblers and drunkards creating a nuisance, the Waluj MIDC police have launched a severe drive against the illegal liquor joints on Kamlapur Road in the Waluj Mahanagar area since Thursday evening.

Learning about the police raid, the owners of the liquor dens have fled from the scene, leaving bottles, playing cards and other items behind.

The police also cracked the whip on illegal liquor and gambling dens in Wadgaon Kolhati and the Pandharpur area.

Illegal gambling and liquor dens had been flourishing in the Waluj Mahanagar area for a long time. The gamblers and the drunkards have been terrorising the residents, especially the women and the girl students.

The residents had complained on several occasions to the police administration to take strict action against these illegal businesses.
