Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The process for selecting co-opted members in the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation (CSMC) has gained momentum, with the deadline for submitting applications ending on March 30. A total of 80 nomination forms have been received for 10 co-opted member positions.
Sources said major political parties, including Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) and Shiv Sena (UBT), will each select one co-opted member. However, no final names have been announced yet, as scrutiny of applications is still underway.
Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) group leader Kishor Nagare said that all interested aspirants were asked to submit nomination forms. He added that after verification, senior party leaders will take the final decision on the candidate.
Similarly, Shiv Sena (UBT) group leader Ganesh Lokhande said around 15 applications have been received by their party. He stated that no candidate has been finalised yet and discussions will be held with senior leader Ambadas Danve before making a decision.
Traditionally, co-opted member posts are meant for professionals such as social workers, doctors, lawyers, educationists, and retired officials. However, in practice, political workers are often appointed to these roles.
Officials said that after scrutiny, parties will submit their final proposals to the mayor. The selected names are expected to be announced during the general body meeting, which is likely to be held in the second week of April.
The selection process is being closely watched, as these appointments play an important role in the functioning of the municipal corporation.
