‘Buildings Built On Drains’: NCP MP Supriya Sule Speaks On Hinjawadi IT Park Waterlogging Issue (VIDEO) |

Baramati MP Supriya Sule addressed the media on Sunday following the widespread circulation of visuals showing flooded streets in Hinjawadi IT Park. The scenes of waterlogged roads sparked concerns over the area’s development and infrastructure.

“I have been raising this issue for many years,” said Sule. “I personally review the development progress in Hinjawadi every two months. It’s important to remember that Pawar Saheb initiated Hinjawadi, and today approximately 6 lakh people are indirectly employed there.”

Sule expressed her concern over recent rapid development, especially over the past two years. “There has been extensive construction, and many open areas have been closed off. The natural water flow has been completely blocked. Several drains have been built over, which is a major problem.”

She added, “We have been engaging with the government for two and a half years to urge that development should happen, but it must be scientific and sustainable. Proper planning is essential to prevent such flooding and protect the environment.”

Torrential rains lashed Pune on Saturday, turning the Information Technology hub of Hinjawadi into an aquatic park. However, in a respite for the employees, the day being a holiday for most, they were saved from the trouble of commuting to and from their offices.
