Beed: A non-cognisable case has been registered against Adv Gunaratna Sadavarte at the Shivajinagar police station for allegedly making derogatory and controversial remarks against Maratha reservation activist Manoj Jarange.

Jarange supporter Gangadhar Kalkute lodged a complaint with the police on Saturday.

According to the complaint, Sadavarte allegedly used objectionable language against Jarange and made controversial remarks during a public meeting held as part of a massive rally outside the Beed district collectorate on August 21. The remarks were also allegedly made during a press conference at the government rest house.

The complainant has alleged that Sadavarte issued threats while making the remarks and claimed that they had created a threat to Jarange Patil’s safety.

Acting on the complaint, Shivajinagar police registered a non-cognisable report (NC No. 2026) against Sadavarte under Sections 351(2) and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Following directions from senior police officials, the report has been handed over to Assistant Police Inspector DD Lanke for further preventive action.
