Even though Shivajinagar MLA Siddharth Shirole in March claimed that part of the Bremen Chowk to E-Square flyover on Ganeshkhind Road would be operational from May, the flyover will not open on the stated date as the work has not been completed yet.

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), which is overseeing another flyover project in the Sinhagad Road area, has, however, scheduled the official launch of that flyover for May 1 at the hands of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, following criticism due to the delayed opening.

One side of the flyover between Bremen Chowk and E-Square was supposed to open for public use from May 1. However, it will not open now on May 1, sources told the Free Press Journal.

Meanwhile, speaking with the Free Press Journal, Shivajinagar MLA Siddharth Shirole stated that 80 percent of the work has been completed, with only the installation of symbols and signboards remaining. He added that the flyover will likely be fully completed before May 20. The concerned authorities are expected to make an official announcement soon, he added.

Sinhagad road flyover

Meanwhile, the long-awaited inauguration of the Sinhagad Road flyover is scheduled to take place on May 1 at 7 AM at the hands of Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar.

The opening of the flyover is expected to bring major relief to commuters who have been facing severe traffic congestion in the area for months.

For the uninitiated, Monday morning turned into a nightmare for Punekars travelling on Sinhagad Road, as massive traffic snarls, reminiscent of Mumbai’s worst jams, left commuters stranded for hours. Congestion stretched up to 6 km, resulting in a frustrating and exhausting start to the week for thousands of residents, who found themselves trapped in long queues of honking vehicles.
