Youth stabs girlfriend, injures self in Borivali

Mumbai: In a shocking incident, a youth first attacked his girlfriend with a knife after a duel and then tried to commit suicide by attacking himself with the same weapon at Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP) in Borivali (E) on Wednesday afternoon. According to police, the couple was reportedly going through a rough patch and met to sort the matter out. They were having an intense conversation on a bridge in the national park around 2pm. When the things turned sour, the youth took a sharp knife out of his pocket and stabbed the woman. Later, the youth also stabbed himself and tried to kill himself. Fortunately, eyewitnesses alerted police and rushed the duo to the nearby hospital. The couple are recuperating at the civic-run Shatabdi Hospital in Borivali.  A police officer said, “Since the youth was carrying a knife with him, it was suspectedly a premeditated attack. We have booked him for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons (section 324) and attempt to murder (section 307) of the IPC.” Police sources said the woman is critical. The reason behind the attack is unknown. Kasturba Marg police are investigating the matter and are waiting for the victim to regain consciousness to record her statement.
