Navi Mumbai: Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) marked World Environment Day with an innovative eco-friendly rangoli made from 1001 seed modaks at its headquarters. Designed by artist Shrihari Pawale and installed at the entrance corridor of the NMMC building, the rangoli incorporates seed modaks—small clay balls embedded with plant seeds—that promote natural reforestation.

This initiative, led by Dr. Prashant Thorat of the NGO Prabhat Trust, involves creating seed modaks by coating seeds with clay shaped like traditional modaks. When dispersed, the clay dissolves and allows the seeds to germinate into plants, supporting ecological restoration efforts.

NMMC Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde guided the installation, emphasizing the importance of ecological conservation. "The rangoli’s theme aligned with the United Nations Environment Programme’s 2025 global World Environment Day focus on 'Solutions to Plastic Pollution,' spreading the message 'Say No to Plastic, Save the Environment.' We urge residents to opt for a sustainable lifestyle," Dr Shinde said.
