Western Railway has commended the swift and sensitive action of one of its staff members after a minor girl travelling alone without a ticket was rescued onboard the 12951 Mumbai Central–New Delhi Rajdhani Express. The incident took place on 8 August 2025 and was shared by Western Railway in a post on X.

According to the railway’s statement, Assistant Chief Ticket Inspector (ACTI) Sunil Kumar Singh was conducting routine ticket checks between Ratlam and Kota stations when he found the young girl travelling without a valid ticket. Upon questioning, Singh learned that the minor was travelling alone to Delhi and had not informed her family about her journey.

Realising the potential risk to the passenger’s safety, Singh immediately took action. He promptly informed the New Delhi Control Office and arranged for the girl to be received by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) at her destination. Once the train reached New Delhi, the RPF took custody of the girl and initiated steps to ensure she was safely reunited with her family.

Western Railway highlighted the ACTI’s timely intervention, noting that his alertness and compassion prevented a potentially dangerous situation. The incident underscores the crucial role railway staff play not only in ticket checking and operational duties but also in ensuring passenger safety, particularly in cases involving vulnerable individuals such as minors travelling alone.

In its post, Western Railway expressed appreciation for Singh’s “sensitivity and promptness,” which ensured the minor’s safe return home. The organisation also urged passengers to travel responsibly and to ensure minors are accompanied by guardians during train journeys.

This case adds to several recent examples where railway staff and the RPF have worked together to protect vulnerable passengers, reinforcing the railways’ commitment to passenger security.
