WAVES 2025: Malaysia's Consulate General In Mumbai Showcases Traditional Dances Ahead Of Visit Malaysia Year 2026

Mumbai: The Consulate General of Malaysia in Mumbai showcased Malaysia’s traditional dances at the World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES) organised in Mumbai from May 1 to 4.

In conjunction with the WAVES summit, the Consulate General of Malaysia in Mumbai showcased Malaysia’s traditional Joget, Zapin and Inang dances to dignitaries, participants, and visitors at the gathering held at the Jio World Convention Centre on May 3.

The performance was a part of the Consulate’s efforts to promote Malaysia’s diverse and vibrant culture in India and to foster closer cultural ties between the two nations.

Eighteen talented Malaysian dancers from the KLE-USM International Medical Programme (IMP), Karnataka’s Belgaum, captivated the audience with their graceful performances. The troupe has been actively promoting Malaysian performing arts at various events and programs across India for several years. Tourism Malaysia (TM) Mumbai also screened the Malaysia Truly Asia promotional video during the cultural showcase.

The event drew audience from local and international attendees. The Consul General of Malaysia in Mumbai, Ahmad Zuwairi Yusoff, commended the successful collaboration between the Consulate and the WAVES Secretariat, highlighting how such initiatives have significantly strengthened cultural diplomacy and bilateral relations between Malaysia and India.

"WAVES provided Malaysia with wonderful opportunity to explore increasing the culture exchange activity and promoting Malaysia as a vibrant and exciting tourist destination for international travellers including from India,” said Yusoff.

As part of the lead-up to Visit Malaysia Year 2026, the event served as a platform to spotlight Malaysia’s rich cultural heritage and tourism offerings. The campaign aims to welcome tourists from around the world by highlighting Malaysia’s unique blend of tradition, modernity, and natural beauty, with a focus on immersive cultural experiences and sustainable travel.
