Mumbai : Paying heed to the long pending demand of commuters for multiple exits at Wadala Road station, Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation (MRVC) is in talks with BMC for extending its existing Foot Over Bridge (FOB) at CST end and providing a direct exist on RA Kidwai Marg in Wadala West.

A joint inspection between officials of MRVC and BMC was held in July to inspect the location for putting up pillars for extension of the FOB. The FOB ends towards the CST end bridge which needs to be extended will pass over a sewage pumping station of the BMC along RA Kidwai marg. An officials from BMC said, “According to the initial plans of BMC, the pillar of the bridge would be placed on the bar screen and it would have to be shifted. It would mean shifting of the entire plant.”

The civic body is yet to give its nod for extension of the bridge which will include laying pillars inside the pumping station. The extension of FOB, when approved, will prove to be a great relief for commuters who now have to walk to the other end for taking exit.

An official from MRVC said, “The only exit on Wadala west with the booking office in one corner is extremely narrow and too crowded. There are also plans of having an alternate exit in the middle of the station.”

Several commuters after coming out of the train on platform number 2 and 3, instead of taking the FOB to reach platform 1 simply prefer to cross the tracks and reach platform no.1.

Rehana Bi, a 62-year old woman who was one amongst the many who were crossing the tracks to reach platform number 1, said, “After getting off the train, I walked half the platform to reach its end for the FOB. Now, climbing up the stairs is another problem. Instead simply crossing the tracks is a simpler option. It would be convenient if there would be another FOB in the middle of the station.”

MRVC will also be working on constructing another FOB in the middle of the station which will save commuters from walking one end to take to the FOB.  This FOB will also have an exit on platform number 1 which will be in the middle of the station and not on its extreme end.
