Palghar, Maharashtra: In a chilling incident from Nalasopara’s Dhaniv Baug area, a woman allegedly murdered her husband with the help of her lover and buried his body beneath the floor of their home. The gruesome crime came to light after the victim’s brother noticed changes in the floor tiles and alerted police.

The victim, 32-year-old Vijay Chauhan, lived in Rashid Compound, Om Sai Welfare Society in Nalasopara East with his wife, Chaman Devi Chauhan, and their three-year-old daughter. A daily wage labourer by profession, Vijay had reportedly gone missing about 15 days ago. When questioned, his wife claimed he had gone out for work.

However, suspicion deepened after Chaman Devi fled two days ago with a 20-year-old neighbour, Monu Sharma, with whom she was allegedly having an affair for several months.

On Monday morning, Vijay’s brothers, who live in Bilalpada, went to his house in search of him. There, they noticed that several tiles on the floor appeared newly replaced. Upon digging, they discovered a vest buried under the tiles and were hit by a foul smell. Realising something was terribly wrong, they immediately informed the police.

Pelhar Police arrived at the scene and began an investigation. Since the body was suspected to be buried beneath the floor, the local tehsildar was summoned to supervise the exhumation. However, due to his prior commitments at an event in Palghar, excavation work began only around 5 pm. By 6 pm, the police had recovered the decomposed body and sent it for post-mortem examination.

Police officials said it remains unclear how the murder was carried out, but confirmed that a third person may have assisted the accused. A manhunt is currently underway to trace Chaman Devi, Monu Sharma, and the third accomplice.

Investigations are ongoing.
