Palghar, Maharashtra: A 44-year-old man died and his teenage daughter was injured after a speeding water tanker rammed into them in Nalasopara East last month. The tanker driver allegedly fled the scene without providing assistance or informing the police.
According to Tulinj Police, the incident occurred on July 31, 2025, around 6:30 am, when the victim, Sandeep Shankar Khambhe, was escorting his 14-year-old daughter, Kanika, to school in Vijay Nagar, Nalasopara East.
Driver Flees Scene Without Helping
As they reached Virar Road, a water tanker approached from the opposite direction and hit them head-on. Both father and daughter suffered serious leg injuries, with fractures reported in both cases.
Father Succumbs to Injuries in Hospital
Instead of stopping to help, the tanker driver fled. Khambhe was admitted to Chavan Multispeciality Hospital in Charkop, Kandivali (West), Mumbai, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
Case Registered, Search Launched for Absconding Driver
Following the incident, a formal complaint was registered against the tanker driver under sections 106(1), 125(b), and 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, as well as relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, including 134(a), 134(b), and 184.
Police have launched an investigation to trace and apprehend the absconding driver.
