Vasai: Two labourers died of suffocation after falling into a 30-foot-deep well at a Ready-Mix Concrete (RMC) plant in Sasupada of Naigaon East, on Friday evening. A third worker, who entered the well in a rescue attempt, was saved in the nick of time. The Naigaon police have registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) and launched a detailed investigation into the incident.

How Did The Accident Take Place?

According to officials, the deceased, Vishwajit Rajbhar (20) and Rajan Rajbhar (24), were working at the cement processing site when the mishap occurred. The duo had descended into the water-storing well using a rope, which is suspected to have snapped, leading to their fall. Both men were reportedly trapped in the confined space with poor ventilation, causing them to suffocate, reported Hindustan Times.

Hearing their desperate cries for help, another worker, Ajay Yadav, raised an alarm. Salman Khan (25), a fellow labourer, volunteered to descend into the well in an attempt to rescue the two. However, Salman also began to lose consciousness due to the lack of oxygen.

All 3 Labourers Pulled Out Using Hydra Crane

Rescue operations were delayed due to the depth and darkness of the well. Eventually, the site supervisor arranged for a Hydra crane to assist in the extraction. All three labourers were pulled out and rushed to hospitals. Vishwajit and Rajan were taken to Nilkanth Hospital, while Salman was admitted to Orbit Hospital in Kashimira. Doctors declared Vishwajit and Rajan dead during treatment at around 11 pm on Friday. Salman is reported to be recovering.

Police confirmed that both deceased workers hailed from Banaras in Uttar Pradesh and were living alone in Vasai’s Sasupada area. They had come to the city in search of work and were employed at the same RMC plant.

Speaking to HT, Police Sub-Inspector Anil Kere, who is overseeing the case, stated, “We have registered an ADR and are probing the incident under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita. Investigations are focused on whether any safety norms were violated and if negligence contributed to the tragedy.”
